मोक्ष

At the burning ghat in the oldest city of India, known for it's tradition & culture where death is celebrated. Here, death isn't something to be hidden. Hindus believe that if ashes are laid in the Ganga at Varanasi, their soul will be transferred to heaven and escape the cycle of rebirth.

We do not fear death. We celebrate it. People come here with hope, not fear. It’s the city of Lord Shiva.
Why do people say 'Ram Naam Satya Hai' ?
Ram Naam Satya Hai (The name of Ram is the truth) is generally chanted in Hinduism while carrying a dead bodies. The purpose of saying it is only to explain to the family members, friends, that in life and even after life, Shouting in unison Ram Nam is the ultimate way to get all the desires fulfilled and move towards Moksha. One day everything has to be left here. Jointly, only our karma gets on. The soul will get speed purely by the name of Ram.

In these photographs, the body is not fully cremated. Whole body leaving the face was heavily covered with pieces of wood, that is the reason why only the face is visible not the body.
People build up karma, both good and bad, based on their actions within that lifetime. This karma affects their future lives and existences. Death is a key part of this cycle and is treated with specific importance. Death is the last samsara (cycle of life) referred to as the ‘last sacrifice’.
